Finals are over

Now that classes are over I can concentrate on my thesis. Not! Christmas is coming! I gotta go shopping, but I haven't yet. First I have to take a breather.... sleep of course -- for I was sure lacking sleep while I was working on my marketing project, composing pieces of my thesis, writing and studying for the final exams.

The marketing final was interesting. We had to write a 5 page paper at 1.5 spacing, incorporating all the articles we've read and all the comments from another book that touched on the same thing in the articles. We had 24 articles and 10 chapters in another book. To fit all that in 5 pages was the challenge. Luckily I found a few loop holes. shhhhh! First, there was no font size indication. Second, there was no margin indication. I contemplated on on writing it in 8 point font and then hiking up the magnification to .... say.... 250% or more. It was to be sent electronically ;-p. But, I stuck to the standard -- times new roman at 12 font. Overexaggerating will only get me into trouble, eventhough it truely wasn't mentioned what font. he he. I had a feeling the topic to the final exam was going to be "tie in all the readings we have done in the class," and boy was I right. And eventhough I wasn't supposed to, I wrote it in English. Imagine how long it would be in French, with all those "de, de la, des, a la, au, aux" everywhere. I once read a paper my friend wrote in English. It was almost a direct translation of his French, and he had "of" everywhere. This is when I realized how much of that they used in French. I think English is more compact. What would be fun is to write the thing in German. One sentence takes up half the page. You can only write 10 sentences, hahaha. (overexaggerated a little).

Then while I was studying for my biomaterials test, we had construction work ON MY BALCONY!!! Boy, was I mad. The concierge never said a thing. One day I found two men on my balcony, kicking the side panels and my door and talking on my balcony like they had a right to be there. They left shortly. The next day, they did the samething. I was working on my bed, next to my one and only window and I felt that I was being intruded upon. A few hours goes by and they started to put drapes over my entire balcony. To do this they had to tie it to the balconies of on the second floor. They had covered my balcony -- no more sun for me at my one and only window!!! I was quite mad. I knocked on the concierges' door, who so happened to be my next door neighbor (our doors aren't even 2 steps away from each other. its perpendicular to each other), but they weren't home. Usually when you being work even near my apt, you're suppose to give some sort of warning. I wasn't given any, and it was ON my balcony!!!! So later, I decided to open my back door to the freezing outside and asked the guys what the heck they were doing. One guy told me that the garage is leaking and the leak originated from my crappy balcony flooring. Fine! So, how long would this take? and why was I not informed of this????? He said a few days, two or three days. Lets just say its been over a week, by tomorrow it would be two weeks since my poor plants have seen the sun.

As I stepped out to go to class, I was fuming. I slammed the door as hard as I could -- like the concierges always do frigging early in the morning while I slept. It was the last day of class before the final for that course. It was also the first of December which meant I had to pay rent. Upon my return, I grabbed my check, and knocked again at the concierges' door. The lady answered and I started to tell her how much I do not appreciate not being informed about the work that is being done on my balcony. There I was in the middle of the studying, end of projects and I was pratically not sleeping nor eating, and I get disrupted without even a warning. I even had to move my work to the kitchen. She explained that she wanted to tell me about it but I wasn't home. What an excuse!!!! Everytime someone knocks at the door its for them, not me, since I'm not the concierge. The door knocking noise is undecernable to me when I'm not at the door. Furthermore, they were my neighbors, why couldn't they leave me a note??? They had everyone's telephone number, why couldn't they leave a mesages???? Her excuse was completely unacceptable. I told her to take a note of my number, since its on the check! What right have they to intrude on anybody without calling anyways???? Do you think everybody is always dressed for the public at all times????? or not doing anything important to always answer the door? The concierge is supposed to be available for people within certain periods, after which they have their private lives. I repect their times, why can't they respect mine?!!

Anyway, she was not apologetic at all, and blamed everything on her husband. I asked her how long the work would be, and she said a couple of days -- 2 or 3 days. As I mentioned before, tomorrow will be the end of the second week. They had the nerves to come here at 7:30 in the morning after I had been studying til 2:30 AM, again without a single warning! Nick told me its all illegal work they are doing. First, to do any construction here in Quebec, you'd need a license -- generation of taxes, of course. Most construction works are done in the summer because it freezes here. That's why they had to drape my balcony -- to prevent snow from falling on the ground. Second, no construction can begin earlier than 8:30AM and you can call the police to regulate the noise ordinance they have over here. So all this right next to my ears where I slept. Great service huh??? Mr Stompy, the upstairs neighbor has gotten himself a new stereo or something recently, and he's been blasting his system practically everyday since he's gotten it. I can felt the vibrations while I sleep. This is hella annoying!!!!!

This place sucks! I hope I find something better after I finish my masters. I hope I get my masters fast. My boss is saying sometimes in april-may. I sure as heck don't want that. We had another meeting after my exams. yep, another great meeting.

as i type this, the two guys are on the balcony. today they have a torch with them. last time it was a jackhammer at 7:30am. there seems to be a lot of stupid people in montreal. people are sooo freaking rude here -- i've met many, but fortunately, there are also some very nice people. too bad all the rude people work at places where you have to interact with them -- banks, school, metros.... the humanity! makes you wanna scream.

ok, i think i'm done ranting for now.

Crunch Time

The finals are coming! Actually, it is already here. I've started my take home final two days ago. Guess what the topic was.

In 5 pages, 1.5 space, integrate all the readings that were done for the class. Cite all the articles (there are 24 of them), and all the topics that were covered in another book (we read 10 chapters).

This was given to us after 4.5 hours of presentations from every member of the class (professor included). This class was extremely time consuming. I'd say all the time I spent this trimester was absorbed by this class. Meanwhile, I have two other classes and a thesis to write and revise. Isn't this crazy?

So midway between this week and mid next week is crunch week. Everything must be finished by Tuesday. Otherwise, I'm in deep, deep doo-doo. This makes a 20 -30 page project, three sections of my theiss, a final to write, another final to study for whose material I haven't touched the whole trimester, and a ghastly meeting to go to. Wish me luck, and if I don't blog afterwards, the stress has killed me. So I should say "adieu" right now...
