Back into the blog

Looks like its been a while since I last blogged. I was a bit busy -- goofing around with friends. Work is better now. I was tired of reading articles anyway. They always make me sleepy. I was supposed to get an ok from one of my advisors before starting my experiments, which explains why I was on the reading bench for a while. Lab work is much more fun.

Recently, my friends and I went to a bar/pub (whatever, i don't know the difference) for my bday. I don't even know what the bar is called, but they had a live band. This band was called "The Blue Seed," which coincidentally is the name of an anime I had watched. The vocalist is a woman, while the rest of the group are men. They were quite good. Good enough that my friend even bought their CD. About maybe 30 minutes at the bar, I began to get sick. Sick in the way where you can re-acquaint yourself with whatever you had eaten before you got there. It was the smoke. I didn't used to be so affected by cigarette smoke. This pub was even better than the other one we poked our heads into for a peek. The other two we visited before this pub had a much more concentrated dose of cigarette smoke. Thankfully, I recovered and then headed out for some fresh air, and boy what a difference the air quality is.

That weekend, my friend and I rented some anime, and we vegged out pretty much the rest of the weekend. It was great since the weather was really terrible (rain, rain, and more rain, plus it was hella cold).

oh, did i mentioned we played a tournament of soccer a while ago? This time it was not on snow. It was regular fake grass. We won the first game. Yay! uh, by default because the other team didn't show up. We played another team (math, instead of architecture) and they were a nice team. Neither of us won (no scores made), but we had fun. Then we played history, and they beat us by one point (3 to 2), and that was the end of our tournament. Dang, you're not supposed to lose the second game. Oh well, at least I got my exercise for the week. Next game is cosom hockey, but we're not sure if we have enough players, yet. We'll see.

i'm much more active now... let's see... tueday mornings i jog with a friend. wednesday nights I do archery, and thursday mornings i do badminton with the same friend i go jogging with. pretty cool. just need to find stuff for monday, friday and weekends. can't wait to get my ice skates.

CIBC run for the cure

Saturday, Oct 3, we ran the 5k for the canadian breast cancer fundraising that we got into. It was a beautiful day (to look at), but freezing cold. I could not believe how nice and sunny it looks, but feels so chilly. Thanks to everyone who contributed to my fundraising. You guys are the best!!!

My friend picked me up around 8:30 and we headed for donuts and coffee. Mmmm chocolate. I don't do coffee in the morning. I figure the run will wake me up enough. We got to the Dorchester Square in downtown, and there were already plenty of people since some people had to pick up their run kits, which included a T-shirt, their number tag, and another tag where you can indicate who you're running for. We chose to run for "la rechereche", the research. I must say, I've been fortunate enough not to know anyone with breast cancer. This was a good cause, so I'm glad I did it.

There were a lot of stuff going on at the park. Free food!!! Candy, bagels, yogurt, water, juice, rice krispy bars, power bars, and cotton candy. People were picking up everything, but I thought it would be a bit heavy before the run, so we didn't make all the rounds. There was even face painting and stick on tatoos. Together we had 5 people with us from the same department. Dani was in another team and won 3rd place for running the 1k. Go Dani, go! She got a really nice jacket, a bouquet of flowers, and a medal, along with her picture taken I'm assuming (I missed her moment on stage since there were too many people standing in front of me. plus, we decided to go hunting for more stuff).

The run... uh walk...no no, crawl, started quite slow. You just can't believe how many people there were. I don't think I even heard the word go, but off people went. We were in the middle of this mess. It was like walking 10 milimeters a step at first. Hardly moving at all. The hey, I saw some people took off running in another section. Dang, I wanted to be in the run section. It was not until 3 minutes or so that we were in a comfortable walking pace... then we were inspired by the runners to go for it. Two of us took off running (where was Dani?) and then a thrid... doh!! We were like, "where did you come from? Aren't you supposed to be with the fourth?" Ok, so we lost one of us ...left her alone :'-(. fortunately she was not mad at us when we finally found her after the race. we're sorry!!
