where's the power?

yesterday was my first class of power yoga. we came in a few minutes late and the class was comfortably full. however, we found the place awfully dark. half the lights were killed off and it was the half where the instructor was. we grabbed our mats and started doing some exercises starting with the child pose. everything was in french, but it wasn't called pose d'enfant or anything. in fact, i didn't even get a name for that pose. we ended up doing a lot of downward doggy, but it was really hard to hear what she was saying (let alone understand since there were a few words i didn't understand in french). if it weren't for the pilates courses i took in the States, i would be completely lost. anyway, i didn't find too much power in the course. power pilates gave me much more of a sweat than power yoga. i'm a bit disappointed. i hope the second class would be better. there is too much background noise (basketball court upstairs) and not enough light to see. an interesting observation is that the whole class is composed practically of tall, slim beautiful girls, and two boys. oh and halfway into the course, a group of girls comes in, making it uncomfortable full. i wish they wouldn't overbook the capacity like that. makes it less interesting for everyone.

Lasgne

A few days ago, one my collegue found a box of lasgne in the laboratory freezer while doing her routine checks. The moment she checked, everything was in working order. Then, the double-take. Was that a lasgne I saw in the LABORTORY FREEZER???? yep, it was still a lasgne when she opened the freezer a second time. An emailed was sent to all of us in the lab, that indicated it is strictly forbidden to eat and of course to forbidden to store food in laboratory equipments.

Then came the wave of jokes. An email saying it is also forbidden to heat up the lasgne in the water bath as well as the pasture oven. Another one says, for chicken in the incubator, its ok since its just a steak overnight. Then one more says: if you need the autoclave, please retrieve my underwear and put them on my bench. nobody mentioned the laboratory microwave. he he he.

My lab people are funny.... heheh. I was tempted to write one myself, wondering if I can have a piece of that lasgne. or better yet... if you don't want your lasgne found, please put it in the -80C fridge instead of the -20C. People don't ususally open that one up.

we store chemicals in that freezer and sometimes tissues and cells. good thing the box was unopened. i wouldn't eat it if it were opened. well my labpeople had a good laugh and everything was good, and for a while some of us wanted to claim the lasgne. at least i did.

happy new year

a little late, but it hasn't been that many days of the new year. vacation was quite fun, but i definately over-ate. i partook in at least 5 dinner parties. i got to visit Ottowa, capital of Canada, and even saw Paul Martin's house and most of the embassies, from the outside of course.

For new years, 5 of us went to Louisville to celebrate. we experienced gourmet dining (little portions of really expensive meat -- stuff like bison, carribou (sp?), ostrich, lamb). there were like 6 courses (three apatizers, it looked). champagne was the last thing they served. then they went around giving all the guys a plastic, fuzz covered cowboy hat, and the girls, feathers mounted on a metallic head band thingy. there was a live band that played traditional quebeckian music. i didn't know most of the songs they played, but they did play michael jackson's billie jean, and the ymca song.

i went back to work on the 5th. i was glad to see my co-workers but we still wanted to be on vacation. so today is the first weekend after we went back to work (for 3 days), and i'm just sitting around listening to music on the radio, longing for KROQ music.

oh ja, stuff i found out while i was on vacation. no taco bell in montreal but if you move toward the english provinces... toronoto and stuff you'll have some taco bell.... so i totally went for mexican food when i was in Ottowa. I missed my taco salads. don't suppose i can get some chili cheese fries anywhere around here. you never think you would miss stuff like this until you can't get it anywhere.
