hope, comfort, relief
my software problem turned out not to be so soft. after wiping out my entire c: drive, (i would never think i would actually format c:), the error re-occurred to my dismay. however, this time i could actually read the blue screen of death. it says "page fault in nonpage area." and yes i was able to guess the approximate problem with that message. i wish i had been able to read the error message before erasing everything on my c: drive. now, i am down a bunch of lovable programs i once had.
my guess had been confirmed with the computer stud at my school who gave me a program to check my RAM. the first time i ran it, the errors skyrocketed like there is no limit. actually i think it might have hit a limit because the programed sorta halted in the middle of the night sometimes, saying unexpected halting or something. at first i didn't know what to do, but finally i just re-booted.
the program re-started, but to my surprise, there were no errors at all. i had thought the program fixed my memory error, but can it do that? it was only a program to determine if you had a memory problem. so i fired off another email to the computer stud at the school and he said, i might have had a bad contact. what a relief. i was going to buy some screwdrivers and open up my memory compartment when i decided to just give my baby a go. it ran the whole day without a single glitch. i guess my connection is good now.... but just to be on the safe side, i've already know where to buy new memory and am still going to go buy those screwdrivers (when i get a chance. today i cleaned my appartment!!!). maybe i'll open her up to see if the connection is good or if there are any dust bunnies in there. i ususally keep it clean from dirt though. afterall, it is my baby!!

panic, shock, woe
aug 10, while downloading the windows update, my baby rebooted, flashing a split-second blue screen of death that some error has occured. what error, i do not know. i was looking at the properties of a file that i had just downloaded when it occured. i wanted to see the virus properties before opening it. at that moment, i thought that file was contaminated. yet, i would not fully belive it. i had two firewalls up as well as a virus scanner running in the background. a virus scanner that had just been updated the previous day. after the first re-boot, i found myself in an infinite loop of re-boots. Blast!!! i thought it was ms blast, a virus that i had contracted the summer before, but i had completely wiped out the virus from my computer in a few hours, my first experience in virus extermination. i still have that tool. yet, i could not reach it. my baby relentlessly re-booted again and again. i was even unable to reach safe mode (let alone safe mode with networking, or safe mode with dos). the first chance i got, i loaded safe mode with networking and deleted the file i thought was causing the problem. surprisingly i was able to load normal windows mode. i thought my problem was solve. again, i did not believe it was the file that had caused the damage. guess what? i recovered it from the trash bin.
Flash!!! blue screen of death, followed by rebooting storm. it was hours until i was able to reach another safe mode... this time with dos. the file was once again deleted (for good. it doesn't stick around when you delete with dos). after a few minutes the blue screen of death re-appeared. there is a full-lengh page of text on that blue screen of death, but who can read it in half a milisecond? Sasser was my next guess. 11:30 pm i got regular safe mode working, did a full scan of my computer (thankfully that works in safe mode), with no detection of virus. Had the "supposed" virus wipe out my virus scanning capabilities? I must find alternative scanning options.
Next day, i dragged my baby to school after work. i searched the net for virus removing tools that fit the symptoms my baby was facing. it was possibily Sasser. After a few trys to boot my computer, it loaded in normal mode. Tool downloaded onto disk, and fed to the disk drive. Complete scan, no sasser present. i thought i would take a chance at connecting internet for an online virus scan through virus killing giants like norton. Crashed in mid-scan. reboot, scan, crashed in mid-scan. after several tries, i was getting edgy. it always crash around 10,000 files scanned. reboot, UNINSTALL!!!!! i uninstalled at least 4 programs hoping to reduce the number of files that needs to be scanned. I also deleted around 500 MB worth of stuff on my D drive as well. Scan.... Crash!!!!
my friend was online at the time. gave me another link. scanning with trend micro, maker of my antivirus. full scan completed without complications. what a relief... but no virus found. so guess what??!!! its not a virus!!! it's that stupid windows update that jacked up my computer!!!!!!! NOW I HAVE TO REINSTALL EVERYTHING ON MY COMPUTER!!!!! why wasn't it a virus??? i would have preferred a virus. i don't want to copy out all my files and wipe out my computer to re-install!!!!! i should have known something was up when my outlook express complained that something was wrong after i did a windows update the day before.
moral of the story: get linux, get mac (actually, i crash macs quite often), stay away from windows OS!
i will now be accepting donations toward my new linux workstation and linux softwares.
as for immortie, my baby, she will get reformated when i have the time and the recovery disks will keep her company while she regains the programs that were once installed.
just when i got internet too. (sigh)

mwahah fun time
yes, i finally got internet. it cost a lot, but it brings so much pleasure. now i can finally think about changing blog skins to my liking. imagine all the fun i can have with internet. i can read e-books, keep up with the news, find out about the weather ahead of time instead of getting caught in the rain. i can check words up without buying a dictionary. i can find out how creative people are today with technology. and to describe all this feeling with one single word, i offer you the word "duuuuuuude!!!!" (in the very best way, of course).
