Le Congé
My most favorite word in French for the moment. It means holiday or something, and we got one this monday. woohoo! I think I need a little break. Between looking for housing and trying to do my experiments smoothly, things are just a bit hectic. I almost got housing. I found this little appartment right across the streets from our sports center, and two people are competing for it other than me. Now, I don't know how the race will go, but I hope to get it. That way I don't have to worry about it in the days to come. Right now I have to look for backup. I found another one not so far away, but someone already sent in their application. the dude told me he would let me know if i can get in on the deal, but why is everything taking so long. its not like i want to move in june. i would prefer july cuz i have lots of stuff to do in june, but if i get it over with i guess i can be happy too.
ok this week... death my metro case... have to walk half way to my school in melting sun 30°C. more than 300 Kelvin is just crazy. appartment hunting, found two i like, both on waiting list. fed my cells some stuff... they don't like it much at all. boy are they swelled up! the other day i left school at 11pm. i was really hungry! but my friend and i played some badminton that same day, so it was at least an interesting day.
oh, i just found out what congé means. It means "leave"! i don't think you have to leave, but you could if you want to... leave, hmmm, doesn't sound as cool as holiday (les vacances), but i still like it.

Proof that there is more inspiration when dark
So, its 5AM and I have just finished my grant proposal. I have no clue what I wrote in it, but hopefully its good. I think I was at 5 AM too when I finished my 6 page (single spaced) German midterm, not knowing what I wrote in it since it was in German. It made sense at the time you write it, but when you look back at what you wrote, it no longer seems familiar.

almost stranded
today, as i was on metro, an announcement came up: one of the lines are down. just perfect, the line i was going to take. luckily, the line was still moving when i got there. however, this makes me think about my moving arrangements. i should be as close to the school as possible in case the meto or the bus decide to take a vacation. i hate getting stranded. such a waste of time! it already takes more than an hour to get to school from where i am living, by walking... the apartment i saw yesterday was quite nice, but hella far. it'll take me two days to get to school! i like to be in control of my lateness -- sleeping late, too lazy, or forgot to set my timer. but taking 30 minutes to get to the metro and finding out it wont run anymore is just wrong!!! the alternative is the bus, and the taxi! hmmmm choices!!!

ambulance day
Yesterday while i was at the guichet at the bank trying to deposit money, this dude suddenly had a collapse attack. i believe he was in his early 20s or younger and he was suddenly leaning against the machine looking as if he was about to faint. actually i didn't recognize it because i was not wearing any glasses and i had thought he was in the middle of pushing the money machine cuz it gave error messages. anyway, a couple asked if he needed help (in french) and that's when my ears perked up and look at what was really happening. he said, he would like for them to call for help, and they knocked on the door to the bank where a security guard told them they were closed and basically gave them a sign of dismissal. he finally got what they were trying to convey and opened the door, where the young fainting dude asked for some water. he said ok and came back with some water, which he drank and felt better. he was able to stand within a minute and i asked him if he wanted to continue his banking and go ahead of me. he went and started getting dizzy again. the couple asked the guard for help again, and now the guard was unwilling. he was "a glass of water, a glass of water. i can't be getting you a glass of water all the time, go to a clinic for heavens sake." the young man, said "please, may i have a glass of water." and he relented. the guard came back and say "here it is, now would you get out of the bank, there are people waiting to use the guichet. go find yourself a clinic." man, how cruel, i thought! anyway. i used the guichet to deposit then headed for the metro towards home. an annoucement came on. the metro is interrupted by an ambulance on the orange line (the line i needed to take). oh great!! death by metro, i bet. but i was able to catch the next metro to my surprise. i thought i was going to be stuck. tho the accident might have been near the end of the orange line, so quite far from me. while there, i saw a classmate of mine. we talked for a while until we got to the next station, where i had to change out. my last hitch on the public transportation (the bus)... i saw the fainting dude... he was able to walk around, bought himself a gatorade and was going the same way i was... we were in the same bus. two dudes where talking in english on the bus, and went "hey, there's a man dying there." i was curious, and turned around to see an amublance sending a kid into the car. friday was just a wierd day!
